The SGA is the premier program of the National Congress of State Games with the Georgia Games being one of those members.

What is SGA and who can participate?
The State Games of America is an Olympic-style event featuring competition between State Games medal winners (gold, silver, bronze) from across the nation. There are currently 31 states conducting or organizing statewide sports festivals known as State Games.

If you are a Georgia resident, and you won gold, silver or bronze medals in the 2019 or 2020 Georgia Games Championships, then you are eligible to compete at the 2021 SGA.

When is the event held?
The event is hosted every two years (2013, 2015, 2017, etc.).

Where is the event held?
The 2021 State Games of America will be held in Ames-Des Moines, Iowa. The 2017 State Games of America in Grand Rapids is expected to attract 12,000 competitors. Most recently, the largest State Games of America was held in Lincoln, NE with over 15,000 total participants.

What sports are offered?
The number of sports hosted in a State Games competition varies depending on the host city. In 2021, over 40+ sports will be offered and the SGA Committee hopes to continue to offer these numbers of sports.
